What is the evidence for the Prophet seeing Allah, and for people seeing Allah on the Day of Resurrection?

Question:
Our sister asks: Is there evidence that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw Allah ? And is there evidence that people will see Allah on the Day of Resurrection?

Answer:
As for in this world, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see his Lord. Moses asked to see his Lord, and he said:
You will not see Me.. لَن تَرَانِي..
[Surat al-A'raf: 143]. And our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Bear this thing in mind that none amongst you would be able to see Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, until he dies.واعلموا أنه لن يرى أحدٌ منكم ربه حتى يموت
Sahih Muslim 2930a, 2931, 169d
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not see his Lord. He was asked about this; Abu Dharr asked him, saying: O Messenger of Allah, did you see your Lord? He said:
I saw a light رأيت نورًا
In another wording, he said:
A light. How could I see Him?نورٌ أنى أراه؟
It was narrated by Muslim in the Sahih.
And it was made clear to us that none of us will see his Lord until he dies, so it is known from this that he does not see Him in this world , but only in the Hereafter. He may be seen in sleep, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us, but He is not seen with the eye in a state of wakefulness except in the Hereafter. The reports from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) have been transmitted by mass transmission that Allah is seen in the Hereafter; the believers see Him on the Day of Resurrection, and the people of Paradise see Him in Paradise. This is the consensus of the people of the Sunnah and the community.
Some of the people of innovation have denied this and said that He is not seen even in the Hereafter. This is an invalid statement. Rather, whoever knows the authentic, mass-transmitted hadiths knows that it is the truth: that He is seen in the Hereafter and in Paradise, and that the believers see Him. And whoever denies this has lied to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us (peace and blessings be upon him) that we will see our Lord. In some narrations in the two Sahihs, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So verily, you shall see your Lord as you see the moon on the night of a full moon, you shall not crowd one another to see Him.إنكم سترون ربكم كما ترون القمر ليلة البدر، لا تضامون في رؤيته، وكما ترون الشمس صحوًا، ليس دونها سحاب
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2554Sahih (Darussalam)
So he (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that He is seen—(Exalted and Majestic is He)—with a clear, manifest vision. The believers see Him on the Day of Resurrection, and the believers see Him in Paradise as the full moon is seen on a clear night. They are not wronged in seeing Him, meaning they are not crowded in seeing Him, nor do they press against one another, nor do they doubt seeing Him . This is how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us.
The reports from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) have come in a mass-transmitted, certain manner, and the people of the Sunnah and the community have agreed upon it: the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who followed them with excellence. They all agreed that Allah is seen in the Hereafter, and the people of Paradise see Him, and the believers see Him, while the disbelievers do not see Him. Allah the Exalted said:
No! Indeed, from their Lord, that Day, they will be partitioned.كَلَّا إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ
[Surat al-Mutaffifin: 15], meaning the disbelievers do not see Him on the Day of Resurrection; they are veiled from Him. As for the believers, they see Him on the Day of Resurrection and they see Him in Paradise as He wills . This is the statement of the people of truth, and it is the statement of the people of the Sunnah and the community.
A group of the scholars held that whoever denies this is a disbeliever. A group of the people of the Sunnah and the community held that whoever denies seeing Allah in Paradise and on the Day of Resurrection is a disbeliever, because he is one who lies to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the authentic, mass-transmitted, established hadiths from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
We ask Allah to make us and you and the rest of the Muslims among those who see Him, and among those who succeed in that, on the Day of Resurrection and in the abode of honor. And we ask Allah for safety from obeying desires and Satan.
