Ruling on Sufficing with Reciting Part of a Surah in Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Those who recite part of a surah, Your Eminence, is there any blame in this?
Answer:
There is no blame in that; for Allah says: [Al-Muzzammil: 20] So if one recites part of a surah, or the end of a surah, there is no blame in that. And if one recites (Say: He is Allah, the One) at times in the second rak'ah, or recites it with others, there is nothing wrong with it. It was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Some of the imams of the Ansar recite (Say: He is Allah, the One) along with their other recitation. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him about that, and he said: I recite it because I love it, for it is the description of the Most Merciful, and I love it. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: HSahih al-Bukhari 774b And in another wording he said: Sahih al-Bukhari 7375 meaning: as I love it. So if he recites it with others, there is nothing wrong with it, or if he recites it alone after al-Fatihah, there is nothing wrong with it. But seeking the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and following his methodology in recitation is better and better. Yes.
