Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return in this episode to the letter of the listener Najeeh Taha Hussein, as we addressed some of his questions in a previous episode. In this episode, he has a number of remaining questions, among which is one that asks: What is the ruling on raising dogs?
Answer:
It is not permissible to raise dogs except for three purposes: hunting, guarding livestock, and farming, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Riyad as-Salihin 1688 And because raising dogs is a means to their impurity, their foulness, and causing harm to the household with them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that the vessel be washed seven times if a dog licks in it, the first of which with soil.
Therefore, it is obligatory to stay away from them and be safe from them, except for one who needs them for hunting, farming, or guarding sheep. As for raising them for other purposes, imitating the Christians and their like, this is not permissible. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
