The ruling on believing that the awliya (close friends of Allah) bring sweets and other things

Question:
The listener (A. B. Z.) from South Yemen sent a message saying: We have graves of awliya (close friends of Allah) who passed away a long time ago, and many people among us believe that they have karamah (a miracle granted to a righteous person). They claim that these awliya bring sweets, rice, coffee, and dates from another country, and they say that this is from the karamah of these awliya. They affirm that what was a mu'jizah (a prophetic miracle) for the Prophet was a karamah for a wali (close friend of Allah). Is this belief correct? And is it reasonable that such things happen from these awliya? We ask for your guidance and direction. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
Their belief that the awliya (close friends of Allah) bring them such and such sweets, or other things, is batil (invalid), and this is from the play of the Shayatin (Satan). As for their drawing near to the awliya with sweets at their graves, or with slaughtered animals, or with other things, hoping for their tabarruk (seeking blessing from a thing or person) or their shafa'ah (intercession); this is shirk akbar (major shirk). We ask Allah for safety.
It is wajib (obligatory) for the believer to beware of these superstitions that many people do. It is not permissible for him to believe in the buried, whether they are called awliya or not. It is not permissible to believe that they intercede for those who slaughter for them, or who call upon them besides Allah. Rather, they intercede for the awliya of the believers. The believer on the Day of Resurrection intercedes for the believer, not for the mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah). The prophets intercede, the angels intercede, the believers intercede, and the mufrat (the foremost in faith) intercede, but only for those whose words and deeds Allah is pleased with, as the Exalted said: [Al-Anbiya: 28].
So shafa'ah (intercession) is only for the people of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and iman (faith), not for the people of shirk (associating partners with Allah). The one who thinks that the awliya or the prophets intercede for the mushrikin (those who associate partners with Allah) who worship them with Allah and call upon them with Allah; he is mistaken, and his belief is batil (invalid). It is not permissible to call upon anyone with Allah, nor to ask for intercession, nor to seek aid from them, nor to make vows to them, nor to slaughter for them. All of this is shirk with Allah .
And if you want the shafa'ah (intercession) of the prophets and the believers; then you must obey Allah and affirm His tawhid (the oneness of Allah), follow His Shari'ah (Islamic sacred law), and be upright upon His religion. The prophets, the awliya, and the believers intercede for the people of tawhid and iman, just as the angels intercede and the mufrat intercede as well, but only for those whose words and deeds Allah is pleased with, for the people of tawhid, not for the people of shirk with Allah . But the Shayatin (Satan) have deceived many people and made it attractive to them that these awliya act in the universe, and that they benefit and harm and cure the sick of people when they draw near to them with slaughtered animals or vows. This is shirk akbar (major shirk), and this is from the play of Shaytan, and this is from the deeds of the jahiliyyah (the pre-Islamic age of ignorance). The Exalted said: [Yunus: 18]. They draw near to their graves and to the idols made in their images with offerings of prostration, slaughter, and other things. They claim that by this they intercede for them with Allah. This is the very essence of kufr (disbelief). And so is His saying, the Exalted: [Az-Zumar: 3], meaning: They worshipped them with Allah, believing that they bring them closer to Allah, by slaughtering for them, prostrating to them, calling upon them, and seeking aid from them. And this is shirk akbar (major shirk).
So it is necessary to beware of these superstitions and misguidances which are from the deeds of the Shayatin (Satan) and from the deeds of the mushrikin (those who associate partners with Allah). No one is called upon with Allah, not a wali (close friend of Allah) or other, not a prophet or other, not an angel or other. Rather, Allah alone is called upon, and He is asked and requested to fulfill needs and relieve distress . As for the dead believer, he is called upon for forgiveness and mercy, and the living believer is called upon for steadfastness upon the truth. The prophets are sent blessings upon - (peace and blessings be upon them) - and Allah is called upon to reward them well for what they did, and they are not worshipped with Allah . Worship is the right of Allah. The Exalted said: [Al-Bayyinah: 5]. The Exalted said: [Al-Jinn: 18]. The Exalted said: [Fatir 35:13] If you call upon them, they will not hear your call, and even if they did hear, they would not respond to you, and on the Day of Resurrection they will disavow your shirk (associating partners with Allah) [Fatir: 13-14]. He called it shirk, so it is obligatory to beware. And the Exalted said: [Al-Mu'minun: 117]. And whoever claims that a wali (close friend of Allah) brings him sweets, or brings him clothing, or brings him a slaughtered animal, or brings him meat; he is mistaken. This is from the work of Shaytan. The Shayatin (Satan) are the ones who bring these things to them to encourage them to shirk (associating partners with Allah) and the worship of other than Allah . We ask Allah for safety.
