The Ruling on Leading Prayer for One Who Has Reached Fifteen Years of Age
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: I am a student in the third year of middle school, and I am fifteen years old. Sometimes I lead my father and some friends in prayer. Is there any problem with this, given that they are not educated and do not know how to read?
Answer:
There is no blame on you for that; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 980Sahih (Darussalam) So if you lead them in voluntary prayer, or at night, or in the Fajr prayer if you missed it with the people of the mosque, there is no blame on you for leading them. And 'Amr ibn Salama used to lead his congregation when he was seven years old, because he was the best of them at recitation.
The point is: if you are the best of them at recitation, you are more deserving of leading the prayer. But it is not permissible for you to pray in the house; rather, it is obligatory for you to pray with the Muslims in the mosque. And it is obligatory for your father, and for the men of the household, to pray in the mosques. But in the house, the voluntary night prayer (tahajjud) and the Duha prayer, if you lead them in them, if it happens that you missed the prayer in the mosque and you prayed with them, there is nothing wrong with it. Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
