What is the virtue of fasting on the fourteenth and fifteenth, or the fifteenth and sixteenth, of the month of Sha'ban?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : This listener, Abdullah Matir from Al-Ula, asks: What is the virtue of fasting on the fourteenth and fifteenth, or the fifteenth and sixteenth, of the month of Sha'ban? Please inform us. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Fasting three days of every month is a recommended practice (sunnah) of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast three days of every month. Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "He did not care whether he fasted them at the beginning of the month, in the middle, or at the end". However, it is better for these three days to be the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth, not as the questioner said, the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth. There is no difference between Sha'ban and other months.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : However, singling out Sha'ban for this implies that one believes it is a recommended practice (sunnah) in Sha'ban and not in other months, which is not the case. The white days and the middle of Sha'ban are like other days in other months; Sha'ban has no special merit over other months in this matter. There are narrations regarding the virtue of fasting on the middle of Sha'ban, but they are weak and do not constitute proof. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
