The ruling on carpets and blankets that have images on them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A female listener, the sender (B. S.) from Riyadh, also asks a collection of questions, one of which is: Are carpets and blankets that contain images of living beings considered among the things that are treated with disrespect, and is there any harm in keeping them in the bedrooms? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Carpets, pillows, blankets, and the like of things that are treated with disrespect: the presence of an image in them does no harm. It is established from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw an image on a curtain in her possession, he tore it and disapproved of it. She said: So we made two cushions from it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would lean on them. In Sunan al-Nasa'i and others, it is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had an appointment with Jibril, but he was late for the appointment. When he came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him, and he said:
Indeed, in the house there is a curtain with images, a statue, and a dog, so order the head of the statue to be cut off, and the curtain to be made into two cushions that are placed in a corner and trodden upon, and order the dog to be taken outإن في البيت سترًا فيه تصاوير وتمثالًا وكلبًا، فمر برأس التمثال أن يقطع، وبالستر أن يجعل منه وسادتان منتبذتان توطأان، ومر بالكلب أن يخرج
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so; he ordered the head of the statue to be cut off, and the curtain to be made into two cushions, and he ordered the dog to be taken out. The dog was a puppy under a bed, which al-Hasan or al-Husayn had brought in.
The point is: This indicates that making a curtain into a cushion is sufficient for things that are treated with disrespect. So if the image is on a carpet, or on a pillow, or on a chair that is treated with disrespect, there is no harm in that. But if it is hung on the walls, or on the doors, then this is reprehensible and not permissible. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
