Expiation for one who breaks an oath and is unable to fast

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was received by the program from the listener: Muhammad Saleh Muhammad Ahmad. Our brother Muhammad says: I once swore an oath not to do a certain thing, but I did that thing. What is obligatory for me to do, given that I am unable to fast?
Answer: You must pay the expiation for an oath. Allah the Exalted says:
Allah will not impose blame upon you for what is meaningless in your oaths, but He will impose blame upon you for [breaking] what you intended of oaths. So its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people from the average of that which you feed your [own] families or clothing them or the freeing of a slave. But whoever cannot find [or afford it] - then a fast of three days [is required]. That is the expiation for oaths when you have swornلا يُؤَاخِذُكُمُ اللَّهُ بِاللَّغْوِ فِي أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يُؤَاخِذُكُمْ بِمَا عَقَّدْتُمُ الأَيْمَانَ فَكَفَّارَتُهُ إِطْعَامُ عَشَرَةِ مَسَاكِينَ مِنْ أَوْسَطِ مَا تُطْعِمُونَ أَهْلِيكُمْ أَوْ كِسْوَتُهُمْ أَوْ تَحْرِيرُ رَقَبَةٍ فَمَنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ فَصِيَامُ ثَلاثَةِ أَيَّامٍ ذَلِكَ كَفَّارَةُ أَيْمَانِكُمْ إِذَا حَلَفْتُمْ
[Al-Ma'idah: 89]. Fasting is only required after one is unable to feed, unable to clothe, and unable to free a slave. If you swore to do something and did not do it, you must feed ten poor people. Feed ten poor people from the middle of what you feed your family, from your food, such as rice, dates, or wheat. If you provide them with a side dish along with the rice or wheat, that is better.
If you feed them dinner in your house, or in a restaurant, or in any place, or if you feed them lunch, or if you clothe them with clothing that suffices them for prayer, the objective is achieved, and praise be to Allah.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
