The Expiation for Breaking an Oath
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 12541 )
Q: I have a mother or a younger sister, and I swore an oath that my mother would not marry my younger sister before me out of compassion for me, but she married my younger sister before me with my mother's permission , and my mother asks what she should do with her oath?
A: If the matter is as described, then it is obligatory for your mother to pay the expiation for an oath
for her breaking of her oath. The expiation is freeing a believing slave, or feeding ten poor people, or clothing them. If she cannot find the means to do so, she must fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
