Is shaving the hair of a female slave on the seventh day, like that of a male, part of the Sunnah, or is shaving specific to males only?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. He says: Is shaving the hair of a female slave on the seventh day, like that of a male, part of the Sunnah, or is shaving specific to males only?

The Shaykh : We do not find in the Sunnah anything that excludes the girl, and we do not say "female slave" (al-ama); because "female slave" is specific to one who is not a free woman, and the intended meaning is the girl. We do not find anything that distinguishes between the girl and the boy regarding shaving the head on the seventh day. We say this, even though there is no explicit hadith that the girl is like the boy, but we take that from the generality of his statement (peace and blessings be upon him):
Woman are counterpart of men. إنما النساء شقائق الرجال
Sunan Abi Dawud 236
. So, if no specific ruling comes for women, they are included with men in this hadith; and even though in some rulings they are separated from men, this must have a text indicating the specificity of the woman in that ruling, and the matter here is not so. So we say in that case: the girl's hair is shaved just as the boy's hair is shaved on the seventh day.
Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with good.
