The ruling on the 'aqiqah, and the ruling on slaughtering it for a son after he has grown up
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A listener sent a message saying: Your brother in Allah, Muhammad Hasan al-'Az al-Din, is Egyptian and resides in the Kingdom. He asks your Eminence and says: I have three sons for whom I did not slaughter the 'aqiqah at their birth, following the Sunnah of our noble Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), because I was not aware of its obligation. After I learned of it, and praise be to Allah, my circumstances did not allow me to perform it. Can I perform it if my circumstances improve, even though my sons have reached the age of nineteen? And if this is the case, may the people of the household eat from it, or must it all be distributed to the poor? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
The 'aqiqah is recommended. It is slaughtered on the seventh day: two for a male and one for a female. If it is not slaughtered, you owe nothing. If it is slaughtered, even after the child has grown up, that is better. The Sunnah is for you and your household to eat from it, and to feed those of your neighbors and the poor that you see fit. If you distribute all of it, or part of it, to the poor, there is nothing wrong with that. If you and your household eat all of it, there is nothing wrong with that. However, the best is to feed people, give charity, and eat from it. Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
