The Ruling on Boycotting a Neighbor for the Sake of Religion
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner, whose name is symbolized by (Khalid A. A.) from Dammam, says: I have not dealt with my neighbor and have kept my distance from him, and I have not spoken to him, and this is for the sake of religion and not for any worldly goal. So what do you advise me to do? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
If they have publicly declared their sins or disbelief, they deserve to be boycotted. But if you see that it is better to advise them regarding what has occurred from them and not to boycott them, and you see that this is the best course, then advise them, direct them toward good, enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong; for Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Ma'idah: 2], and He says (Exalted and Majestic is He): [Al-Tawbah: 71], and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith: Sahih Muslim 49a So if you see that directing them to good and advising them is the way, then you are upon great good. But if you have lost hope and they do not accept your advice, then boycotting them is recommended. Yes.

He who amongst you sees something abominable should modify it with the help of his hand; and if he has not strength enough to do it, then he should do it with his tongue, and if he has not strength enough to do it, (even) then he should (abhor it) from his heart, and that is the least of faith.
