Question:
The first message in this episode is one that reached the program from the State of Kuwait. The sender of the message is the listener: Adel Al-Sa'id. Brother Adel says: My story is that I want something to hold me, and advice from you that would benefit me in my religion, my worldly life, and my Hereafter. My problem is that I pray, and I intend to make a sincere repentance, then I return to leaving off the prayer, then I pray and leave it off for about a week, and so on, and so on... I hope you will guide me, O Shaykh, so that I may be upright with continuous uprightness? May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon whoever follows his guidance. As for what follows:
My advice to you is to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and to watch Him (Glorified and Exalted is He) in all circumstances, and to know that the prayer is the pillar of Islam, and that it is the second of its pillars, and that leaving it off is disbelief in Allah .
So it is obligatory for you to be cautious, and to ask your Lord for steadfastness and success in being upright, and to watch Him, and to be mindful that you are accountable, and that you are in danger of dying in that state in which you left off the prayer, and then you will be destined for the Fire. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) And he also (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 578 meaning: to the Fire. And that is, (and Allah knows best), only because the one who leaves off the prayer either leaves it off for the sake of leadership; so he will be gathered with Pharaoh into the Fire; because Pharaoh was occupied with leadership from obeying Allah and the Messenger. Or he leaves it off for the sake of his job; so he will be gathered with Haman, the minister of Pharaoh; because his work with Pharaoh occupied him from obeying Allah and believing in His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Or he leaves off the prayer for the sake of wealth and desires; so he will be like Qarun, whom Allah caused the earth to swallow along with his home, and he will be gathered with him into the Fire. Or he leaves it off for the sake of trade, buying, and selling; so he will be like Abu ibn Khalf, the disbelieving merchant of the people of Makkah; and he will be gathered with him into the Fire.
So it is obligatory for every Muslim to fear Allah, and to watch Allah in all his affairs, and to strive to preserve the prayers in their times in congregation. For whoever preserves them, he has preserved his religion. And whoever neglects them, he is more neglectful of what is besides them. So fear Allah, O Adel, and ask your Lord for success, and preserve them in their times in congregation, and repent to Allah from what has passed with a sincere repentance. And whoever repents, Allah accepts his repentance. We ask Allah for you rectitude and guidance, and success for sincere repentance.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
Will Your Eminence allow me to pause briefly on this issue? Because it is an issue that, in my belief, concerns many of the young people?
The Shaykh : Yes.
The presenter : May Allah bless you. I would like you to also address, O Shaykh, that which affects the young people: in terms of their companions, in terms of their reading, in terms of travel—if you would be so kind?
The Shaykh : Yes, I advise the young people and those other than the young people; I advise everyone to fear Allah, and to be cautious of the causes of falling behind in obeying Allah, and in the prayer. And to be cautious of the company of the wicked who discourage from every good, and from the prayer. And to be cautious of reading harmful magazines, harmful newspapers, and harmful books. And to take care of the Noble Qur'an, for the Qur'an is the cure for every ailment [Al-Isra: 9]. So I advise everyone to take care of the Qur'an, and to increase in its recitation, and to reflect on its meanings, for that is among the causes of the rectitude of the hearts, and the rectitude of the deeds, along with supplication to Allah, and humility before Him, and asking Him for guidance and success. This is my advice to everyone. We ask Allah for everyone guidance and success.
The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah bless you, and may Allah reward you with good. What about the effect of travels, O Shaykh?
The Shaykh : As for travel, there is a detail in it: Travel has a detail in it: If he has a need for a Muslim country; then there is no harm. The Muslims traveled, and the Companions traveled. For him to travel for buying and selling in the lands of the Muslims for other needs, there is no harm. But as for traveling to the lands of disbelief; this is not permissible. He must be cautious! It is obligatory to be cautious of traveling to the lands of disbelief; because traveling to them is among the causes of apostasy, and among the causes of falling into many sins, and among the causes of the hardness of the hearts and heedlessness. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 2645 And it is narrated from him (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 2787Sahih (Al-Albani).
So it is obligatory to be cautious of traveling to the lands of shirk (associating partners with Allah) because of the great danger in it, except for one who has knowledge and insight, who travels for the calling to Allah, and teaching the people, at a time when there is no danger, and in a place where there is no danger; then there is no harm in that. But it is obligatory to be cautious, whatever the ... it is obligatory to be cautious, yes.
The presenter : May Allah bless you. There may be worldly matters that compel a person to travel to the lands of disbelief for their sake, so what is the guidance of Your Eminence?
The Shaykh : Trade: one does not travel for its sake. He must be cautious! Trade comes to him by correspondence without traveling.
As for illness, it is a matter for consideration. If its treatment is not available in the lands of the Muslims, and he is compelled by a necessity that is unavoidable; then this may be permissible for him with caution, and with the company of the good people, for him to accompany the good people, and to be cautious of wandering, and going to mix with the mushrikin (those who associate partners with Allah). Rather, he should aim for the place of treatment, and stay in the place of treatment, and be cautious of harmful mixing.
The presenter : What about one who is afflicted with travel, O Shaykh, and residing in lands that are not for the Muslims?
The Shaykh : It is obligatory to be cautious, except if he is compelled to it; then he resides with his Muslim brothers ... around the Islamic centers, and the Islamic associations; so that he may cooperate with them on good. If he is compelled to that, and if he is in a safe place; then let him stay in it.
The presenter : May Allah bless you, and may Allah reward you with the best reward.

Between a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.
بين الرجل، وبين الكفر والشرك ترك الصلاةThe covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة، فمن تركها؛ فقد كفرIf anyone keeps to it, it will be light, evidence and salvation for him on the day of resurrection; but if anyone does not keep to it, it will not be for him light, evidence, or salvation, and on the day of resurrection he will be associated with Qarun, Pharaoh, Haman, 1 and Ubayy b.
