Caution against beautifying the imam's voice for the sake of people's praise

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the way to not feel a lack of perfection and humility in prayer, given that I lead the people of the neighborhood in the five daily prayers, praise be to Allah? However, in all my attempts to memorize the Qur'an and perfect the recitation during every prayer, I feel that I am showing off to the people, especially in the loud prayers, where I beautify my voice and lengthen the recitation until I imagine that I am doing so to make people feel that I am qualified to be an imam. What is the ruling on this?

Answer:
My brother, you must continue in this work by asking Allah for success in sincerity and being careful to seek refuge in Allah from showing off. Be glad of good and leave behind the whispers that Satan dictates to you that you are intending to show off, or that you are beautifying your voice for the sake of people's praise or so that they say you are qualified to be an imam. Leave behind these whispers and be glad of good. You are commanded to beautify your voice in recitation so that the followers may benefit from you, and there is nothing wrong with you regarding the whispers that occur to you; rather, fight them. Fight them by seeking refuge in Allah from Satan and asking Allah for success, guidance, and assistance in good. You are in a great state of goodness, so continue in leading the prayer, be good to your brothers, and strive to beautify your voice.
The hadith came from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who does not chant the Qur'an is not one of usليس منا من لم يتغن بالقرآن يجهر به
Sunan Abi Dawud 1469Sahih (Al-Albani)
meaning he beautifies his voice in recitation. Beautifying the voice in recitation is among the greatest means for reflection, understanding, comprehending the meaning, and taking pleasure in hearing the Qur'an. In the authentic hadith, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Allah does not listen to anything as He listens to the recitation of the Qur'an by a Prophet who recites it in attractive audible sweet sounding voice.ما أذن الله لشيء ما أذن لنبي حسن الصوت بالقرآن يجهر به
Sahih al-Bukhari 7544
meaning that Allah the Exalted did not listen to anything as He listened to a prophet, and it is a listening that befits Allah, not resembling the attributes of the created beings, for the attributes of Allah the Exalted befit Him, and none of His creation resembles Him (Exalted and Majestic is He), as He the Exalted said:
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
[Surat al-Shura: 11]. However, this indicates to us that Allah the Exalted loves the beautification of the voice in recitation, and He loves that the reciters strive to beautify their voices so that they may benefit and so that those who listen to their recitation may benefit.
And what occurs to you regarding showing off is from Satan, so do not pay attention to it. Fight the enemy of Allah by seeking refuge in Allah from him, and by continuing to beautify your voice and excel in your recitation with humility in your bowing and prostration and the rest of the states of prayer. You are in a good state, if Allah wills. We ask Allah for success and steadfastness upon the truth for us and for you.
