Image-making for the sake of remembrance is not permissible

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message from the senders: Laila and Rima Al-Qadi. The listeners Laila and Rima ask: What is the ruling on collecting pictures for the sake of remembrance only?
Answer: Image-making of living beings is forbidden and not permissible according to the scholars of knowledge, whether the living being is a human, a beast, or a bird; all of it is not permissible. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:
the most grievously tormented people on the Day of Resurrection would be the painters of picturesأشد الناس عذاباً يوم القيامة المصورون
Sahih Muslim 2109a
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hellكل مصور في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
the hadith. And he said:
He who painted pictures in the world would be compelled to breathe soul in them on the Day of Resurrection, but he would not be able to breathe soul (in them).من صور صورة في الدنيا كلف أن ينفخ فيها الروح وليس بنافخ
Sahih Muslim 2110b
The hadiths are explicit in the prohibition of image-making of living beings from the children of Adam and others. Therefore, image-making is not permissible, neither for remembrance nor for anything other than remembrance. It is not permissible for a Muslim to take pictures of his child, his wife, or his relatives for the sake of remembrance. Rather, that is an abomination and not permissible. However, a man may be excused if he takes pictures out of necessity and dire need, such as for a passport, such as for a driver's license; driving cars, or the like of that which dire necessity calls for, and he has no alternative to it and cannot escape it; because the state obligates it. So this and the like of it is permissible out of necessity and pressing need, and he is in the ruling of one who is coerced in these matters, in the ruling of one who is coerced. There is no blame on him, if Allah wills. But it is not befitting for him to take pictures, meaning for the sake of taking pleasure in them, or for remembrance, or for playing with them, or for being lax about it, or the like of this. No, all of this is an abomination and not permissible. But out of necessity, there is no blame, if Allah wills, such as what was mentioned before; such as a passport... if a passport is not available to him except with a picture, if driving a car is not available to him except with a picture, such as a patient, if treatment is not available to him except with a picture, then he is like one who is coerced in these circumstances. Yes.
