The Ruling on Image-Making

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 15952 )
Q3: Is it permissible for us to take pictures with modern cameras?
A3: Image-making is forbidden and a major sin among the major sins; because of the severity of the warning against it and the prohibition of it in authentic and numerous hadiths, such as his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Everyone who makes representations of things will go to hellكل مصوِّر في النار
Mishkat al-Masabih 4498
, and his saying:
He who painted pictures in the world would be compelled to breathe soul in them on the Day of Resurrectionمن صوَّر صورة كُلِّف أن ينفخ فيها الروح يوم القيامة
Sahih Muslim 2110b
, and so on. There is no difference between image-making by any means, whether by hand or by machine; due to the generality of the hadiths. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
