The listener Muhammad 'Abd al-'Adh says: What is the ruling on one who misses the Friday prayer three times or for a long period and does not go, knowing that I work as a guard in a place far from the city, and my employer did not allow me to leave this place?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The five daily prayers are obligatory upon the Muslims, and they are the pillar of Islam, as in the authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2609Sahih (Darussalam) And the Friday prayer is one of the five on the day of Friday, and it is a great obligation, and it is an obligation of a specific time, and specific texts have come regarding it, so leaving it is greater than leaving the other prayers. So it is obligatory for one who leaves it to hasten to repent to Allah and return to Him, Exalted is He, and to feel remorse for what has passed, and to resolve not to return to it. And it has come from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sunan an-Nasa'i 1370Sahih (Darussalam) meaning: regarding their leaving the Friday prayers Sahih Muslim 865, and this is a great warning, that leaving the Friday prayer is among the causes of the heart being sealed and covered, and that its owner becomes one of the heedless, we seek refuge in Allah. And it has come from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: So the result is that leaving the Friday prayer is among the greatest causes of the heart being covered and sealed; so it is obligatory for the believer to hasten to repent, if he leaves it, to hasten to repentance, remorse, and cessation. The majority are of the opinion that he makes it up as the Zuhr prayer, but some scholars have held that leaving it is disbelief and apostasy from Islam, and likewise the other prayers, if he leaves them until the time passes, and may Allah protect us, he disbelieves by that, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) So the matter is great and serious, so it is obligatory for him to hasten to repentance and beware of returning to such a thing, and to increase in righteous deeds, perhaps Allah will accept his repentance, Exalted is He. He, the Exalted, said: [Ta-Ha: 82] And if he makes it up, as the majority said, by making it up as Zuhr, there is no harm, but it is not obligatory upon him according to the correct opinion; because the disbeliever does not make up [missed prayers], and rather it is obligatory for him to repent, and leaving the prayer is disbelief, leaving the prayer intentionally is disbelief, so it is obligatory for one who leaves it to hasten to repentance, and it is not obligatory for him to make it up according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions. Yes.

Islam is based upon five: the testimony of La Ilaha Illallah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, the establishment of the Salat, giving the Zakat, fasting (the month of) Ramadan, and performing Hajj to the House.
