The ruling on one who swore not to abandon prayer and then abandoned it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A message was received by the program from one of the listening brothers. He says: Al-Ja'idi, a Yemeni. Our brother says: Whenever I hear the Qur'an, I swear an oath that I will not abandon prayer from this day forward. But some days have passed in which I did not pray. How do you advise me regarding the work that has passed?
Answer: First, you must repent to Allah, for prayer is the pillar of Islam, and it is the greatest of its pillars after the two testimonies. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.العهد الذي بيننا وبينهم الصلاة فمن تركها فقد كفر
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
.
So you must repent to Allah from this act, which is abandoning prayer for days. And you must hasten and rush to maintain it. If you make up the missed prayers to avoid the scholarly disagreement, that is good. Otherwise, the correct view is that one who abandons it intentionally commits disbelief and does not have to make them up. But if it was a small amount and you make it up as a precaution, there is no harm. And you must pay the expiation for the oath; because you swore not to abandon it and you did abandon it, so you must pay the expiation for the oath for what you did of abandoning it. It is feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. This is what is obligatory for you. And the most important and greatest thing is: repentance to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), and hastening to maintain prayer with your brothers in the mosques of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and being extremely cautious of abandoning it thereafter.
