Ruling on Visiting Sorcerers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence, this is a message received from Abdullah Muhammad Ali al-Adhari al-Yamani. He asks about medical treatment. He says: There is a woman in a village who is known as a "sucker." Men and women go to her, and each one complains of an illness in his or her abdomen, back, or chest. Each one gives her a sum of one hundred riyals. If the patient complains of an ailment in his abdomen, she has him lie on his back and she sucks his abdomen with her mouth, meaning she places her mouth on his abdomen, chest, or back and sucks like a cupping glass without using anything in her mouth. After that, she brings out of her mouth a stone, pus, or something else. Is this matter correct? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
This woman about whom the question is asked appears to be a female sorcerer who performs deeds to deceive people into thinking she has knowledge or something supernatural, or something that doctors do not know. She does what was mentioned, such as sucking a man's abdomen and then bringing out things from her mouth, like stones or the like. Either she is using the jinn and playing on the eyes of those present, showing them that she is bringing something out of his abdomen when there is nothing there, but it is ... on the eyes of the people and magic for their eyes, as the sorcerers did in the time of Musa (peace be upon him) with Pharaoh. Or she puts something in her mouth when she comes to the patient, such as a stone or something else, and brings it out when she sucks his abdomen to show people that this thing came out of his abdomen. What we see in this case and similar ones is that it is not permissible to go to her or to seek treatment from her, because she and those like her are sorcerers and those who play with people through lying or using the jinn and engaging in what Allah the Mighty and Majestic has forbidden, such as shirk (associating partners with Allah) and other wrongdoings done with the jinn, by asking them about the illness of the person for whom she is sought as a healer.
The result is that this woman appears, from her work, to be a female sorcerer, a deceiver, and a liar, or one who uses the jinn. It is not permissible to visit her or those like her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
He who visits a diviner ('Arraf) and asks him about anything, his prayers extending to forty nights will not be accepted.من أتى عرافاً فسأله عن شيء لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يوماً
Sahih Muslim 2230
It was narrated by Muslim in the Sahih. In another wording:
Whoever visits a soothsayer or a diviner and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).من أتى كاهناً أو عرافاً فصدقه بما يقول فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:741
(peace and blessings be upon him). These and those like them are diviners who lie and engage in matters that have no truth, but are fabricated things or things taken from the jinn to deceive people and bring harm upon them without them knowing the truth. And Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
