Ruling on the fasting of one who used nasal drops and tasted them in his throat

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message came from Jeddah, Nazlat Bani Malik. The sender says: I am Muhallal Sahl al-Mutayri. He says: On one of the days of the blessed month of Ramadan this year, 1404, I suffered chest tightness due to a blockage in my nostril, which led me to use nasal drops for two days. The drops went down into my throat. Is it permissible for me to make up those two days on which I used the drops? I am informing you that I did not break my fast until night, holding fast to my fast. Please inform us, may Allah reward you, and may Allah reward you and the Muslims with the best reward?
Answer: The one who used the drops until they reached his throat should make up the fast; because many scholars hold that his fast is invalidated by that. If the drops reach his throat, the better and more cautious course for him is to make up the fast, in order to avoid the disagreement among scholars. He should also delay using the drops, eye drops, and medicine until night if it is possible to delay them, as that is better and more cautious. If he uses them during the day out of severe need, there is no harm, but if the taste reaches his throat, he has broken his fast; otherwise, he has not. His fast is valid and he does not make it up. As for the one whose drop’s taste reached his throat, he makes up that day as a precaution and to avoid the disagreement among scholars.
