What is the meaning of: {Indeed, We offered the trust to the heavens and the earth}?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
And we begin, O Shaykh, with a message from the listener (H. S. M. S. Ghawani) from Bilgazi, who asks about the interpretation of a verse. He says: What is the interpretation of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Indeed, we offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth
[Al-Ahzab: 72]?

Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows:
This verse, on its apparent meaning, informs us that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, offered the trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, meaning to carry it and act upon it. So they refused to carry it and feared it, and man carried it. Indeed, he was unjust and ignorant.
And this trust is the obligations that Allah has charged the servants with, from the commands and prohibitions related to the right of Allah and the rights of the servants. Its matter is great and its danger is significant. Man carried it because he was unjust and ignorant. This is the predominant state of the children of Adam: injustice and ignorance, except for the one who learns and stands firm upon the command of Allah, so he moves from the realm of ignorance to knowledge, and from the realm of injustice to justice, fairness, and uprightness. All the obligations are trusts: the prayer, the alms, fasting, the major pilgrimage, the struggle in the path of Allah, enjoining good and forbidding evil, the minor ritual purity and the major ritual purity, and other things that Allah and His Messenger have commanded are all trusts. Likewise, leaving the forbidden things and being cautious of them is a trust. Abstaining from the forbidden things is obedience to Allah and exalting of Allah, which is among the trusts. Likewise, fulfilling deposits and pledges and caring for them and protecting them from harm is a trust. So it is obligatory for the believer to protect them and fulfill them as he received them, without negligence, loss, or aggression. Whoever falls short in any of that has fallen short in the trust and betrayed it. And betrayals differ, some being greater than others. And Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says:
O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
[Al-Anfal: 27]. And He praised the people of faith for their care of the trust, saying:
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
[Al-Mu'minun: 8]. This is part of the description of the people of faith; because Allah said in the beginning of the verses:
(1) Certainly will the believers have succeeded: (2) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive
[Al-Mu'minun: 1-2]. Then He mentioned noble attributes, among which is His saying, Glorified is He:
And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive
[Al-Mu'minun: 8]. So it is obligatory for the believer to care for the trust and the covenant, and to beware of betrayal in all trusts, the trusts of Allah and the trusts of His servants, Glorified and Exalted is He. Yes.
