The Ruling on Reciting Dhikr with a Misbaha
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! The letter in our hands, which is the first one we received from Sudan, from Khartoum, says its sender, your brother Mukhtar Saleh Hamid: What is the ruling on reciting dhikr with a misbaha? May Allah guide you.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his companions, and whoever follows his guidance.
As for what follows: Reciting dhikr with a misbaha is disliked by many scholars, and some of the Salaf consider it a religious innovation. Therefore, it is better to leave it off; at the very least, it is better to leave it off and suffice with the fingers. This is the Sunnah; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would count his dhikr with his right hand and the fingers of his right hand. This is the best and what should be done. It is narrated from him (peace be upon him) that he ordered counting dhikr with the fingers and said: So it is best for the believer to count with his fingers. This is the Sunnah, and it is better to leave off the misbaha; at the very least, it is better to leave it off. Yes.
