The ruling on instructing the deceased after burial

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sender is Abdul Karim from Al-Khafji. He asks about instructing the buried person. He says: Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings. After that: I hope you will present my question to the honorable answering Shaykh. I would like you to give me an idea about the instruction (ta’leem). Is it valid or a religious innovation? It is the instruction of the deceased when he is placed in the grave. Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good?
Answer: The scholars differed regarding the instruction (ta’leem). It is saying to him: “O so-and-so! Remember what you left the world with: the testimony that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah…” and so on. Some hadiths have come regarding it, but they are not authentic. Some reports (athar) have come from some of the people of Sham. The correct view is that it is a religious innovation (bid’ah)… the instruction (ta’leem). One does not say to him: “O so-and-so! Remember what you left this world with: the testimony that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and that you are pleased with Allah as your Lord, Islam as your religion, and Muhammad as your Messenger, and the Qur’an as your guide…” and so on. This has no basis to rely upon. Therefore, what should be done is to leave it off. This is the relied-upon position due to the lack of evidence. However, it is recommended (mustahabb) when people finish burying the deceased that they stand over him and supplicate for him for forgiveness and steadfastness. This is what is prescribed (mashru’). When people finish burying the deceased, they stand over him and supplicate for him for forgiveness and steadfastness. This is how the Sunnah came
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to stand over the grave when he finished the burial and say: “Seek forgiveness for your brother, and ask Allah for steadfastness for him, for he is now being questioned.”كان النبي ﷺ إذا فرغ من الدفن وقف عليه وقال: استغفروا لأخيكم، وسلوا له التثبيت فإنه الآن يسأل
This is the Sunnah. Yes.
