Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 16413 )
Q 1: What is the ruling on instructing the deceased after burial and raising the soil on the grave above the level of the ground?
A 1 : Instructing the deceased after burial is a religious innovation (bid'ah) that is not permissible, and the hadith reported regarding this has not been authenticated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so it is not permissible to act upon it. However, what is prescribed is that after finishing the burial of the deceased Muslim, one stands at his grave and seeks forgiveness for him, as this was established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in his saying:Sunan Abi Dawud 3221Sahih (Al-Albani) As for what is prescribed regarding raising the grave above the level of the ground, it is approximately the width of a hand. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
