The Ruling on Praying for a Disbeliever and a Sinner

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The sister also says, Harim Yusuf Muhammad Yusuf from Sudan: If a Muslim goes beyond the limits of the Islamic Shari'ah, should Muslims pray for him when he dies or not?
Answer: This varies. If his going beyond the limits necessitates his disbelief, he becomes an apostate and no prayer is offered for him. However, if his going beyond the limits is through sin, such as committing zina while not considering it permissible, or drinking intoxicants while not considering them permissible, or another sin he does not consider permissible, then he is prayed for and supplication is made for his forgiveness and mercy; because he is a sinner. But if his sin necessitates apostasy and takes him out of Islam, then no prayer is offered for him. For example, abandoning the ritual prayer, may Allah protect us, while denying its obligation; or considering zina permissible, viewing it as lawful; or insulting the religion and insulting the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and mocking the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). One who dies in this state is not prayed for; because it is apostasy from Islam. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
