The ruling on a woman wearing the burqa
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This is a message we received from the listener Awad Raji al-Harbi from al-Qasim. He says in his message: I am asking about the burqa: What is the ruling on wearing it if the woman covers herself behind it with a veil? Knowing that wearing, selling, and buying it has become common among many women.
Answer: We do not know of any harm in wearing the burqa, if the opening in it is the size of the eye, there is no harm in that, if Allah wills; because this is a matter known from ancient times, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the woman in ihram from wearing the niqab, which resembles the burqa, with two openings for the eyes the size of the eyes. If a woman uses it for her needs: on her way, or in the presence of someone who is not her mahram, such as her husband's brother, or the like, then there is no harm in that. And if there is something over it that covers the eyes, and she is able to fulfill her needs thereby without it harming her, then this is a matter of perfection. Yes.
