Wearing the Burqa for a Woman in Ihram

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner recalls that she performed 'Umrah with her sister and brother. She says, but the sister was wearing the burqa while she was performing tawaf?

Answer:
She erred in wearing the burqa, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a woman in ihram from wearing the niqab. A woman in ihram should not wear the niqab. The burqa is a type of niqab. Therefore, she owes an expiation if she knew this and did it intentionally. Her expiation is to feed six poor people, or slaughter a sheep, or fast for three days. She has the choice among these three options, as the expiation for wearing it is a choice between these three. However, if she was ignorant or forgetful, she owes nothing. But in the future, she should not wear the burqa while in ihram, nor the niqab while in ihram, nor gloves on her hands while in ihram, due to the prohibition of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding that.
