Ruling on Giving Zakah or Sadaqah to Full Brothers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to give zakah, or sadaqah, to young full brothers who have no one to support them except their brother?

Answer:
If he spends on them from his own wealth, that is safer, if he is able to do so. Otherwise, it is permissible for him to give them from the zakah. It is permissible for him to give them from the zakah and spend on them from the zakah. But if he spends on them from his wealth other than the zakah, if he is able, that is safer and better.

The presenter : May Allah bless you. He asks about maintenance: is it obligatory upon him? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : The obligation in this matter is subject to consideration. But if he spends on them, that is better; because if he is their heir, and they have no heir other than him, some scholars make maintenance obligatory upon him. But if he spends on them, and attends to their needs without extravagance or waste, from his wealth, that is the best for him and the safest for him. And if he spends on them from the zakah, there is no blame on him, according to the correct opinion, if Allah wills.

The presenter : Praise be to Allah. May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
