The Ruling on a Woman Going to the Mosque to Learn Matters of Her Religion

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, a message was received for the program from Libya, signed by one of the female listeners. The sender, Sister Salma, has a question in which she says: Regarding a woman going out of her home out of necessity, on this important topic, I say: We are a group of Muslim girls, and we go to one of the mosques in our city, which is about a quarter of an hour’s walk from home. We go four days a week and learn fiqh and the Sirah. Is this considered a necessity? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
All of this is good. Something like this leads to understanding the religion, which is a required matter, unless there is a school available to you where someone can teach you and help you understand. And if the need arises to attend circles of knowledge in the mosques so that you may hear the benefit and knowledge, then this is a required matter. It may become obligatory, and it may become more emphasized. If the need calls for it, it becomes obligatory.
So the conclusion is: Going out to the mosques to seek knowledge and to understand the religion is a matter required by the Shari'ah, whether it is recommended or obligatory, for both men and women alike.
As for if it is possible for women to understand the religion in their homes, or in private schools, that is sufficient, and praise be to Allah. Otherwise, they should understand the religion and learn the Shari'ah of Allah, even if it means going out to a mosque an hour away, or a quarter of an hour, or more, to understand the religion. And one of her sisters should be with her to help her with that, so that she does not feel lonely on the road, or is not tempted on the road, or her husband or her brother is with her, if there is a need for that. And if the road is safe and there is no fear, then there is nothing wrong with her going out alone. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
