Question:
This questioner says in this question: Your Eminence, the Shaykh! I ask you to explain the hadith:
Hajj is 'Arafahالحج عرفة
And what is obligatory for the one who comes for Hajj?

Answer:
Its meaning, according to the scholars, is that it is the greatest pillar of Hajj. The greatest pillar is 'Arafah. Whoever misses 'Arafah misses Hajj. So if he arrives at 'Arafah on the Day of 'Arafah, the ninth day, after the sun has passed its zenith, and stands there for as long as Allah makes easy, even if it is a little, or at night before the dawn of the Day of Sacrifice, the night of the festival, he has caught up with Hajj. From the passing of the sun until the dawn, meaning the rest of the day and the entire night of the Day of Sacrifice, the night of the festival, is all a place of standing. So if he stands after the sun passes its zenith, or after 'Asr, or after Maghrib, or after 'Isha until the end of the night, he has caught up with Hajj while in the state of ihram.
If he is in the state of ihram intending Hajj, then he has caught up with Hajj. So he must perform the subsequent acts: he goes to Muzdalifah, spends the night there, stons the pillars on the Day of the Festival, performs tawaf and sa'y, and the remaining acts of Hajj. And if he entered the state of ihram for both Hajj and 'Umrah, he must offer a sacrificial animal, a slaughter to be performed in Makkah for the poor. Meaning, the remaining acts. But the greatest pillar is
Hajj is 'Arafahالحج عرفة
Whoever misses 'Arafah misses Hajj.
And the second pillar is tawaf, and the third pillar is sa'y, and the fourth is ihram. His intention to enter into Hajj, or into 'Umrah, is a pillar. He intends ihram for Hajj. This is the first pillar. And it is obligatory that he be from the miqat that he passes when he comes from his country, the first miqat he passes; he enters the state of ihram from it. This is obligatory upon him: to enter the state of ihram from the miqat. As for his entering the state of ihram, his intending Hajj in his heart, this is a pillar of Hajj. For 'Umrah, it is a pillar of 'Umrah.
Then the second pillar is standing at 'Arafah. Then the third pillar is tawaf around the House after descending from 'Arafah. And the fourth pillar is sa'y, which is required for the one who combines, the one who performs Hajj alone, and the one who performs tamattu', all of them. Sa'y is necessary. But the one who performs tamattu' has two sa'ys: the first sa'y is for 'Umrah before Hajj, and the second sa'y is for Hajj.
As for the one who combines and the one who performs Hajj alone, they only have one sa'y. If they perform it with the tawaf of arrival, that suffices. And what remains for them is only the tawaf of Hajj after the festival, then the tawaf of farewell. Yes.
