The ruling on one who intends to stand in night prayer but is unable to do so

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Your Eminence! If a person, whether a man or a woman, intends to stand in night prayer but does not, is the reward for what he intended written for him?

Answer:
Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If a servant falls ill or travels, Allah writes for him what he used to do while he was healthy and resident.إذا مرض العبد، أو سافر كتب الله له ما كان يعمل وهو صحيح مقيم
Likewise, if he sleeps, he has not neglected it, and he gets the reward for standing in night prayer. However, he should pray during the day, praying what he missed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), if sleep or illness prevented him from his night routine, would pray during the day in place of what he did at night. This is the Sunnah. So, if illness or sleep prevents him from his witr at night, or from his portion of recitation at night, he should do it during the day before the midday prayer; this is the best, and his reward will be complete.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) also said regarding the expedition to Tabuk: I
There are people in the city.ن في المدينة أقوامًا
He said to his companions in Tabuk:
There are some people in Medina who were with you all the time, you did not travel any portion of the journey nor crossed any valley, but they were with youإن في المدينة أقوامًا ما سرتم مسيرًا، ولا قطعتم واديًا إلا وهم معكم
Sahih al-Bukhari 4423
And in another wording:
they shared with you in the rewardإلا شركوكم في الأجر
Sunan Ibn Majah 2765Sahih (Darussalam)
They said: O Messenger of Allah! Are they in the city? He said:
And they are in the city, prevented by illnessوهم في المدينة حبسهم المرض
And in the other wording:
An excuse prevented themحبسهم العذر
.
The point is: the one who is prevented from a good deed by an excuse, while he intends it, or it is his habit to do it, gets the reward.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, O His Eminence the Shaykh.
