The ruling on a father neglecting to guide his children after they marry
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The sister (L. A. F.) from the city of al-Qasab sent a message saying: What is your opinion, O Shaykh, regarding a father who raises his children well while they are young, but when they mature, reach manhood, and get married, he neglects them, does not offer them advice, and does not follow up on their conditions, especially those related to their Islamic lives? Does a father's upbringing end when the sons reach maturity and get married, or is it continuous?
Answer:
Rather, it is continuous, and it is obligatory for him to fear Allah in this matter, to keep an eye on them, and to guide them to good if he is able to do so. As for if he is not able because they are in other countries, and he is unable to reach them, and they do not contact him; then he should do what he can, even by telephone, or by correspondence, according to his capacity: [al-Taghabun:16]. It is not permissible for him to neglect them ever, rather it is obligatory for him to guide them, even by telephone, even by correspondence, even by telegram; whatever means he is able to use, he should use it. It is not permissible for him to neglect them because they are his sons, and he is accountable for them on the Day of Resurrection.
But if they are young, the responsibility is more severe, and if they grow up and become independent of him, the responsibility is lighter: [al-Taghabun:16]. He should fear Allah in this matter as much as he is able. Yes.
The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
