Question:
From al-Zafaraniyyah in Baghdad, the listener: Mahmoud al-Tablani sent a question saying: From Jabir that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
He forbade eating the floating (dead fish)نهى عن أكل الطافي
What is the authenticity of this hadith, and another hadith has come that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the sea:
Its water is pure and what dies in it is lawful food.هو الطهور ماؤه الحل ميتته
Sunan Abi Dawud 83Sahih (Al-Albani)
?

Answer:
We do not know any basis for this hadith of Jabir, and its meaning is not correct. Rather, it is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he ordered the Companions to eat the floating (dead fish). It is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that the Companions sought his permission; they found a large whale called al-Anbar that had floated on the sea dead, so they ate from it and provisioned themselves for Madinah. They asked him, and he said:
You have done wellأحسنتم
He asked them for some of what they had, and he ate—(peace and blessings be upon him)—so that they would know its permissibility. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the sea:
Its water is pure and what dies in it is lawful food.هو الطهور ماؤه الحل ميتته
Sunan Abi Dawud 83Sahih (Al-Albani)
So the floating (dead fish) is lawful, and the non-floating is likewise. The floating (dead fish) is that which is on the surface of the sea, having died. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
