The Ruling on Placing Flowers on Graves During the Festivals
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He also says regarding the topic of graves: Flowers are placed on graves, especially on the days of the festivals. Is this permissible?
Answer:
It is not permissible and it is not prescribed. Nothing is to be placed on graves, neither flowers nor anything else. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed two palm branches on two graves of people who were being punished. Allah revealed to His Prophet that they were being punished, so he placed the branches on them and said:Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 1:59 He did not order the placing of branches on other graves; he only placed them on the two graves of which he was informed of the punishment of their occupants. He said: Mishkat al-Masabih 338 This shows us the gravity of the danger in not cleaning oneself from urine, and the gravity of the danger in talebearing. We ask Allah for safety.
Therefore, it is obligatory for every Muslim man and every Muslim woman to take care of ritual purity and to strive to be safe from urine on the body, on the clothing, and on the place of prayer. Likewise, one must beware of talebearing and backbiting. It is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman to beware of backbiting and talebearing. Backbiting is mentioning your brother with what he dislikes; so-and-so is stingy, so-and-so is such-and-such, so-and-so is such-and-such, so-and-so (female) is such-and-such with what she dislikes. Talebearing is conveying bad speech from so-and-so to so-and-so; so-and-so says: about you such-and-such, and so-and-so says: about you such-and-such, so-and-so (female) says: about you such-and-such, so-and-so (female) says: about you such-and-such. This is talebearing, and it is one of the major sins, and one of the causes of hatred and enmity between Muslims. Therefore, it is obligatory to beware of it.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Therefore, it is obligatory to beware of it. And Allah the Exalted says: [Al-Hujurat: 12], and He the Exalted says: [Al-Qalam 68:10] a slanderer, a goer about with a tale [Al-Qalam: 10-11]. We ask Allah for the safety of the Muslims.

لعله يخفف عنهما ما لم تيبساOne of them did not keep himself from being defiled by urine. (A version by Muslim has "did not keep himself undefiled by urine”.) The other went about spreading slander.
أما أحدهما فكان لا يستنزه من البول، وأما الآخر فكان يمشي بالنميمةTherefore, it is obligatory for every Muslim man and every Muslim woman to take care of ritual purity and to strive to be safe from urine on the body, on the clothing, and on the place of prayer. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No talebearer will enter Paradise. And when he was asked about backbiting, he said: Mentioning your brother with what he dislikes. It was said: O Messenger of Allah, what if there is in my brother what I say? He said: If there is in him what you say, then you have backbitten him; and if there is not in him what you say, then you have slandered him.
