The Ruling on Trimming the Beard and Grooming It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
In her questions, this questioner from the Sultanate of Oman asks: What is the ruling in the Shari'ah, in your view, O Shaykh, regarding one who trims his beard without shaving it off, especially when the beard is very thick and conspicuous? Is he excused before Allah if he trims it? Please guide us in light of this question.

Answer:
No one has the right to transgress regarding the beard, neither by shaving it, nor trimming it, nor grooming it. It is obligatory to leave it as is and not touch it; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the authentic hadith:
Cut the beards short, let the beards grow, and be distinct from the polytheists.قصوا الشوارب، ووفروا اللحى، خالفوا المشركين
It is agreed upon on its authenticity. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Trim your mustaches, let your beards grow, and differ from the polytheistsقصوا الشوارب، وأعفوا اللحى، خالفوا المشركين
This is how it came in the authentic hadith in al-Bukhari and Muslim. And in a narration by Muslim, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.جزوا الشوارب، وأرخوا اللحى، خالفوا المجوس
Sahih Muslim 260
.
So it is obligatory for the believer to let the beard grow, to keep it full, and not to touch it. As for the mustache, it is trimmed and shaved off by the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Yes.
