Question:
In his second paragraph, this questioner (A. A. A.) from Algeria asks: What are the seven destructive sins, and does their perpetrator enter the Fire?
Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the seven destructive sins in an authentic hadith, narrated by the two Shaykhs: al-Bukhari and Muslim in the two Sahihs, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: — meaning: the destructive ones. We said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Sunan Abi Dawud 2874Sahih (Al-Albani).
The greatest of them is shirk (associating partners with Allah). It is the destroyer that leaves no hope if a person dies upon it; for him is the Fire, in which he will remain forever, for the ages of ages. Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Ma'idah: 72]. And Allah the Exalted said: [Az-Zumar: 65]. And Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tawbah: 17].
And sorcery is a type of shirk (associating partners with Allah); because it is worship of the jinn, and seeking aid from the jinn to harm people. The sorcerer is the one who engages in what harms people through the jinn, and their worship other than Allah. Sometimes he engages in things that harm them through words, actions, and blowing on knots. Sometimes he does it through illusion, so that one sees a thing as other than what it is. So the sorcerer sometimes does things that harm people through the jinn, and their worship other than Allah, through words, actions, and blowing on knots, as Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Falaq: 4].
And sometimes through illusion, so that he sees things as other than what they are. He sees a rope as a snake, he sees a stick as a snake, he sees a stone as an egg, and he sees a person as other than what he is, and the like of that. So he is among the disbelievers.
It is obligatory upon the one in authority — the authority of the Muslims and the commander of the Muslims — when sorcery is established with the judge, that he must be killed. When sorcery is established with the court, the sorcerer must be killed. He is not asked to repent, but is killed; because his evil is great.
It is established from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) , the Commander of the Faithful (may Allah be pleased with him) , that he wrote to his governors in Sham and elsewhere: "That they should kill every male and female sorcerer," because of the greatness of their evil and danger.
As for killing the soul that Allah has forbidden; that is a great crime. Allah says about it: [An-Nisa: 93]. Killing souls is among the greatest crimes, but it is a major sin less than shirk (associating partners with Allah), of the kind of sins that are major, like zina (unlawful sexual intercourse) and theft, and the like of that. It is not disbelief unless one considers it permissible. For this reason, He said about Him (Glorified and Exalted is He): [An-Nisa: 93]. He will remain in it if he considers it permissible. And if he does not consider it permissible, it is a temporary abode, with an end. The abode of the people of sins is a temporary abode with an end, whereas the abode of the disbelievers has no end.
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:. They said: What are they, O Messenger of Allah? He said: Sahih Muslim 89. By the truth, killing by the truth; a married adulterer is stoned. A person who kills a soul without right, and he is his equivalent, is killed. If something is found in him that obligates his killing, he is killed, like the highway robber who robs on the road, meaning: he exposes people to taking their money on the roads, or beating them, or killing them. He is killed; because of his evil and the greatness of his evil.
The fourth: consuming riba (usury or interest). One engages in the forbidden riba that Allah has forbidden, and He said about it — (Exalted and Majestic is He): [Al-Baqarah: 275]. And He said, the Exalted: [Al-Baqarah 2:278] So if you do not do it, then declare war from Allah and His Messenger [Al-Baqarah: 278-279]. So consuming riba is among the major sins, so it is obligatory to beware of it.
And riba has types: riba al-nasi'ah (usury of deferment), and riba al-fadl (usury of excess in a like-for-like exchange).
Riba al-fadl (usury of excess in a like-for-like exchange): such as selling a dirham for two dirhams, a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of wheat for two sa' of wheat. This is riba al-fadl. A sa' of rice for two sa' of rice, meaning of the same kind. This is riba al-fadl, which is not permissible.
Riba al-nasi'ah (usury of deferment): such as the one who sells a sa' of wheat for two sa' of barley on a deferred basis... after a day... after two days, meaning: it is not received except after the meeting. This is riba al-nasi'ah. He sells one hundred dollars for one hundred pounds, or ......... ten pounds outside the meeting, not received in the meeting. This is called riba al-nasi'ah. He sells, for example: a sa' of wheat for two sa' of barley without exchange of possession. This is called riba al-nasi'ah. Or he sells, for example: ten dollars for twenty dollars on a deferred basis. So this is riba al-nasi'ah with riba al-fadl as well. This is riba, and it is among the greatest of major sins.
The fifth: consuming the wealth of the orphan. And that is the one whose father died while he was small, before reaching puberty. He is called an orphan. It is obligatory to be kind to him, preserve his wealth, increase it, and improve it. So the one who corrupts the wealth of the orphan, and consumes his wealth without right, is threatened with this severe warning; because he is weak, he is transgressed against, and his wealth is consumed. This one is threatened with this severe warning, and he is not a disbeliever, but he is a sinner if he does not consider it permissible.
The sixth: turning one's back on the day of battle. When the Muslims meet the disbelievers, he flees, he abandons his brothers. On the day of the disbelievers' advance on the Muslims, or the Muslims' advance on the disbelievers, the one who flees and leaves his brothers is threatened with this severe warning [Al-Anfal: 16]. Except if he delays to prepare, he brings his weapon, he puts on his armor... for preparation for fighting, meaning, this does not harm him. Or if he is moving from one group to another, he moves from one row to another, or from one group to another to ambush the enemy.
The seventh: falsely accusing chaste, unaware, believing women. The one who falsely accuses chaste, believing, unaware women of zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), saying: So-and-so is a fornicator, so-and-so calls to zina, and he is lying. This is among the seven destructive sins. He deserves to be flogged eighty lashes, as Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nur: 4].
Falsely accusing chaste women is a major sin, and so is the chaste man. But because the majority of false accusations are against women, the hadith mentions women. Otherwise, it is the same. If he falsely accuses a chaste man, saying: he commits zina; then he must bring four witnesses, otherwise he is flogged eighty lashes.
These are the seven destructive sins, meaning: the destructive ones, because of the severity of their evil. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, O Shaykh.

Avoid the seven destructive sins
To assign partner to Allah, magic, to kill a soul (man) which is prohibited by Allah except for which is due, to take usury, to consume the property of an orphan, to retreat on the day of the battle, and to slander chaste women, indiscreet but believing.
The greatest of them is shirk (associating partners with Allah). It is the destroyer that leaves no hope if a person dies upon it; for him is the Fire, in which he will remain forever, for the ages of ages. Allah the Exalted said:
Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
And it was already revealed to you and to those before you that if you should associate [anything] with Allah, your work would surely become worthless, and you would surely be among the losers."
It is not for the polytheists to maintain the mosques of Allah [while] witnessing against themselves with disbelief. [For] those, their deeds have become worthless, and in the Fire they will abide eternally.
And sorcery is a type of shirk (associating partners with Allah); because it is worship of the jinn, and seeking aid from the jinn to harm people. And sometimes through illusion, so that he sees things as other than what they are. As for killing the soul that Allah has forbidden; that is a great crime. Allah says about it:
But whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.
But whoever kills a believer intentionally - his recompense is Hell, wherein he will abide eternally, and Allah has become angry with him and has cursed him and has prepared for him a great punishment.

But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest
