The Shaykh : Then he mentioned the hadith of Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Avoid the seven destructive sins
It was said: "What are they O Messenger of Allah?"
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2210Da'if (Darussalam)
And the greatest of these destructive sins is that you associate partners with Allah (Mighty and Majestic), who created you and bestowed blessings upon you in your mother's womb, after your birth, and during your childhood. Allah bestowed many blessings upon you, yet you associate partners with Him, and refuge is sought in Allah. This is the most unjust of injustices, the most unjust of injustices, to make a rival for Allah, who is your Creator. And the greatest of these destructive sins is associating partners with Allah.
And associating partners with Allah has many types, among which is:
That a person exalts a created being as he exalts the Creator. This is found among some free servants and non-free servants. You find him exalting his chief, exalting his king, exalting his minister more than he exalts Allah, and refuge is sought in Allah. This is shirk, great shirk. You exalt a created being like yourself more than you exalt Allah. And this is indicated by the fact that if his chief, or his minister, or his king, or his master says, "Do such and such," during the prayer, he leaves the prayer and does it, even if the time for the prayer passes, he does not care. This means that he has made the exaltation of the created being greater than the exaltation of the Creator.
And among that is also love, that he loves one of the created beings as he loves Allah, or more. You find him concealing this person and his love for him is greater than his love for Allah. And this is found, and refuge is sought in Allah, among those afflicted with passion, those who are tested by passion, whether it is passion for women or for boys, may Allah grant us safety. You find his heart filled with love for other than Allah more than his love for Allah. And Allah the Exalted said:
And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah
[Al-Baqarah 2:165]
And among that, and it is a hidden matter, is showing off in worship, for it is shirk with Allah. A person stands to pray and beautifies his prayer because so-and-so sees him, looks at him. He fasts to be said that he is a worshipper. He fasts, he gives charity to be said that he is a generous man. He gives charity. This is showing off, showing off. And Allah the Exalted said:
I am the One, One Who does not stand in need of a partner. If anyone does anything in which he associates anyone else with Me, I shall abandon him with one whom he associates with Allah.
Sahih Muslim 2985
And among that also, and it is hidden as well, is that the worldly life takes the heart and mind of a person. You find his mind, his thought, his body, his sleep and his wakefulness all in the worldly life. What did he earn today? What did he lose? What is good? And so you find him scheming for the worldly life through lawful and unlawful means, and through lying and deceiving the authorities, and he does not care, because the worldly life has enslaved him, and refuge is sought in Allah. And the evidence for this shirk is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Woe to the slave of the dinar
Woe to the slave of the dinar. Do you think that this person prostrates to the dinar? Answer: No, but the dinar has mastered his heart.
Woe to the slave of the dinar, woe to the slave of the dirham, woe to the slave of the khumayseh
Meaning the garments.
Woe to the slave of the bedding.
Meaning the bedding. Their only concern is beautifying their garments, beautifying their bedding. It is greater to them than prayer and other acts of worship of Allah.
as he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased
Sahih al-Bukhari 2887
If Allah bestows upon him, he says, "This is the generous, great, majestic Lord who deserves all thanks." And if He does not give, he is displeased, and refuge is sought in Allah. He worships Allah on the edge. If he is struck by good, he is reassured by it. And if he is struck by trial, he turns on his face. He has lost this world and the Hereafter.
If he is given, he is pleased. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
as he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased. Let such a person perish and relapse
Sahih al-Bukhari 2887
He has lost. He has fallen. His affairs have fallen upon him, and Allah has corrupted his affair.
and if he is pricked with a thorn may find no relief.
Sunan Ibn Majah 4136Sahih (Darussalam)
Meaning it signifies that Allah makes things difficult for him, until he cannot even pull a thorn out of his body. If a thorn strikes him, he cannot extract it.
Then he said, in contrast to this:
Paradise is for him who holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's Cause
Sahih al-Bukhari 2887
Blessings, meaning the good life in this world and the Hereafter, for this slave.
Paradise is for him who holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's Cause, with his hair unkempt and feet covered with dust
Sahih al-Bukhari 2887
First, the slave of the garment and the bedding. This one does not care about himself. The most important thing for him is the worship of Allah and the pleasure of Allah.
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, " Let the slave of Dinar and Dirham, of Quantify and Khamisa perish as he is pleased if these things are given to him, and if not, he is displeased. Let such a person perish and relapse, and if he is pierced with a thorn, let him not find anyone to take it out for him. Paradise is for him who holds the reins of his horse to strive in Allah's Cause, with his hair unkempt and feet covered with dust: if he is appointed in the vanguard, he is perfectly satisfied with his post of guarding, and if he is appointed in the rearward, he accepts his post with satisfaction; (he is so simple and unambiguous that) if he asks for permission he is not permitted, and if he intercedes, his intercession is not accepted."
Sahih al-Bukhari 2887
Meaning it signifies that he does not care what rank he is placed in, if there is a benefit in the benefit of jihad, because there is this. He is the one who has gained this world and the Hereafter.
So the result is that some people associate partners with Allah and they do not know. And you, my brother, if you see that the worldly life has filled your heart and that you have no concern except for it, you sleep over it and wake up over it, then know that there is shirk in your heart, because the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Woe to the slave of the dinar
And this is indicated by the fact that the thing has signs: that he strives to obtain wealth, whether through lawful or unlawful means. And the one who truly worships Allah cannot possibly take wealth through unlawful means at all, because the unlawful contains the displeasure of Allah, and the lawful contains the pleasure of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And the person who truly worships Allah says, "I cannot take wealth except through its path, and I cannot spend it except through its path." The result is that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Avoid the seven destructive sins. They said, “What are they?” He said, “Associating partners with Allah.”
And, if Allah wills, the rest of the speech will come on the rest of the hadith. And success is from Allah.
