The ruling on kissing mahrams on the face

Question:
The questioner says, from the Banu Malik family: Is it permissible for a man to kiss his mahrams, such as his mother or sister, on the face, or is it not permissible for him to do so? And if it is not permissible, we ask your Eminence to inform us of the proper way, and to advise the brothers and sisters in this matter.

Answer:
There is no harm in kissing his mahrams, such as his mother or sister, between her eyes, or on her cheek; there is nothing wrong with that, or on her head. Al-Ṣiddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) used to kiss Aisha on her cheek, so there is nothing wrong with it, and praise be to Allah, provided it is not done out of desire, not out of pleasure, but rather out of kinship and family ties. It is not permissible to do this out of desire or pleasure, but rather it should be done out of love, mercy, or kinship; there is nothing wrong with that. Yes.
