Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After that, we move on to a letter sent by the questioner, who used the initials (N. R. M) as a code for his name. He is Egyptian and resides in Khamis Mushait. He has a set of questions. He begins this letter with the first question, saying: If a person enters the mosque and says to another person who is reciting the Qur'an, "As-salamu alaykum," does the one reciting the Qur'an return the greeting, or does he not return it?

Answer:
It is obligatory for him to return the greeting. He must interrupt the recitation and return the greeting. However, if he is in prayer, he returns the greeting with a gesture, a gesture with his hand. But if he is only reciting and not in prayer, he interrupts the recitation and returns the greeting, saying, "Wa alaykum as-salam." Yes.
