Ruling on Reciting the Opening Supplication for One Who Joins the Prayer Late

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner says: If a person prays, is it true that if the follower joins the prayer while the imam is reciting any surah after reciting al-Fatihah, and the follower has not recited the opening supplication, is there any issue with that? And does the prayer become invalid in such a case?

Answer:
If the follower joins the prayer while the imam is reciting after al-Fatihah, he should recite al-Fatihah only, and not recite the opening supplication; because the opening supplication is a voluntary prayer, and he is commanded to listen attentively. However, reciting al-Fatihah is necessary, so he recites al-Fatihah, then listens to his imam. As for the opening supplication, there is no need to recite it; because he is commanded to listen attentively, and the opening supplication is a voluntary prayer, not obligatory. But it is prescribed for him to recite al-Fatihah between himself and his own self until he finishes it, then he listens to his imam. Yes.
