The Ruling on Breaking a Voluntary Fast

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
السؤال:
The questioner from Jeddah, (N. F.), says: I was fasting on a Monday as a voluntary act, but hunger became severe for me, and I was afflicted with some pain and extreme fatigue. My sister said to me: “Break your fast, for there is no blame on you; because this is a voluntary fast.” So I broke my fast. However, I heard from some women that whoever breaks a voluntary fast after having fasted part of the day must make it up. What is the ruling, O honorable Shaykh?
Answer:
There is no blame in that. There is no blame in breaking a voluntary fast. Its performer is the commander of himself. If he wishes, he completes it, and that is better. If it becomes difficult for him, he breaks it, and praise be to Allah. He owes no make-up for it, because it is a voluntary nafilah; if he wishes, he completes it, and if he wishes, he breaks it. There is no blame, and praise be to Allah. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
