Fasting voluntarily with two intentions

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 6497 )
Q3: Is it permissible to fast voluntarily with two intentions : the intention to make up a missed fast, and the intention to perform a recommended practice? What is the ruling on fasting for the traveler and the sick person, especially since what is called travel is indeed travel? If the traveler is able to fast, and likewise if the sick person is able to fast, is the fast accepted in these cases or not?
A3: It is not permissible to fast voluntarily with two intentions, the intention to make up a missed fast and the intention to perform a recommended practice. It is better for the traveler on a short journey to break his fast, but if he fasts, it is valid for him. It is better for one for whom fasting is extremely difficult due to his illness to break his fast. If he knows or strongly suspects that fasting will cause him harm or destruction, he must break his fast, in order to remove hardship and harm. Both the traveler and the sick person must make up the days of Ramadan they broke in other days, but if they fast despite the hardship, it is valid for them.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
