The Correct Method of Tayammum

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Our brother Muhsin Maf'aw Ahmad from Iraq asks about the correct method of tayammum? May Allah reward you with good, and may He benefit you with your knowledge.

Answer:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained the correct method in the hadith of 'Amir ibn Yasir in the two Sahihs. He said to him:
It would have been enough for you to do thus. Then he struck the ground with his handsإنما يكفيك أن تقول بيديك هكذا؛ ثم ضرب بهما الأرض
Sahih Muslim 368a
He struck the ground with his hands... with his palms
and passed his hands over his face and handsثم مسح بهما وجهه وكفيه
Sahih al-Bukhari 338
, and this corresponds to the saying of the Exalted:
and do not find water, then seek clean earth and wipe over your faces and hands with itفَلَمْ تَجِدُوا مَاءً فَتَيَمَّمُوا صَعِيدًا طَيِّبًا فَامْسَحُوا بِوُجُوهِكُمْ وَأَيْدِيكُمْ مِنْهُ
[Al-Ma'idah: 6].
So if one is traveling and has no water, or is sick and unable to use water, he strikes the ground with his palms once, a light strike, then wipes his face and his palms with them. If a lot of dust sticks to them, he blows on them, blows on them, then wipes his face and his palms with them. This is what is prescribed, and one strike is sufficient; one strike is enough. This is the Sunnah.
If he strikes twice, one for his face and the second for his hands, there is no harm, but the better and the Sunnah is one, as in the hadith of 'Amir, where he strikes the ground with them. Or if he has a vessel containing dust, or a bag, or something similar, he strikes the dust with his hands, then wipes his face and his palms with them. This is the Shari'ah tayammum, with the intention; with the intention of purification, and he names Allah, saying: In the name of Allah, just as he names Allah with water in wudu'. And when he strikes the dust with his hands, he wipes his face and his palms with them, then he says:
I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah Alone, there are no partners for Him. And I testify that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah! Make me among the repentant, and make me among those who purify themselves.أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له وأشهد أن محمدًا عبده ورسوله، اللهم اجعلني من التوابين واجعلني من المتطهرين
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 55Da'if (Darussalam)
, just as he does with water; because this takes the place of water. May Allah guide them all. Yes.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
