The ruling on using perfumes containing alcohol
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to use the famous perfumes found in the markets? I have heard that they are not permissible because they contain a quantity of ethyl alcohol in their basic ingredients?
I ask for clarification of the Shari'ah's opinion on this?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There is nothing wrong with perfumes; because fragrance is sought after, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged using fragrance, and fragrance is among the practices of the messengers, and he said:Sunan Abi Dawud 4172Sahih (Al-Albani) So fragrance is sought after, but if a believer knows that some perfume contains alcohol that intoxicates in large quantities, he does not use that fragrance. If he knows that it contains alcohol that intoxicates in large quantities, he does not use it; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1865Hasan (Darussalam).
And it has reached us that cologne contains an intoxicant...., an intoxicant, so if he knows that this cologne is of the type that contains an intoxicant, he does not buy it.
The point is: that any fragrance known to contain an intoxicant is not used, neither by men nor by women, if the majority of it intoxicates. As for if he does not know that, the original state is safety, the original state is safety and permissibility, unless you know that this fragrance, like cologne, contains what intoxicates, or contains what intoxicates in large quantities, then you avoid that, yes.
