How a latecomer prays if the imam appoints him to complete the prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a question from the questioner: Abdul-Razzaq Adam Mahmoud, residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Al-Jumum. He says: I went to the mosque for the 'Isha' prayer and found that the congregation had gotten ahead of me by two rak'ahs. After I said the takbir to enter the prayer, the imam had an excuse that caused him to cut off the prayer, and he appointed me as imam in his place. What should I do in this situation, when I am a latecomer by two rak'ahs?

Answer:
He prays the two rak'ahs that he caught up with the imam, and sits for the tashahhud. When he finishes the first tashahhud, it is better that he sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then he stands up and signals to them to sit down, so that he may finish and say the taslim with them all. He signals to them to sit down, and they do not follow him. When he has made up the two rak'ahs that are due on him, he says the taslim with them all, because he is excused in this situation, and they are excused. So he stands up until he completes his prayer, and they wait for him, because he stood up for an excuse. He says the taslim with them all. This is what is prescribed.
If he had appointed someone who had not missed anything, that would have been better. But since he appointed him, the prayer is valid, and praise be to Allah. So he prays two rak'ahs with them, and does the tashahhud with them, and sends blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), according to the most correct view. It is better to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the two testimonies. Then he stands up with the takbir for the third rak'ah, until he completes it for himself. When he has completed it for himself, he says the taslim with them all. As for them, they do not stand up with him; they wait until he says the taslim with them all. Yes.

The presenter: But if this appointed person also: appointed another, or brought forward another from...?

The Shaykh: Meaning: did he have an excuse?

The presenter: No; without an excuse, but meaning: does he himself appoint one of those who complete the prayer with the first imam?

The Shaykh: No; the best for him is to continue, to comply with what he was appointed to do, he complies, and he does not appoint another. I fear that he would be like an agent who does not appoint in such a case. As long as he was appointed and they accepted him, he proceeds, and he does not appoint another, unless an obstacle arises for him. Yes.

The presenter: Only if there is no obstacle, then he must comply.

The Shaykh: He completes it, and signals to them when he wants to stand up, signaling to them to sit down, until he completes it. If one ignorant person stood up with him, his prayer is valid. If the ignorant person stood up with him and prayed with him, his prayer is valid. But he signals to them to sit down, and he reminds them after the prayer that this is what is prescribed. When such a thing happens, they sit down and wait. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you and reward you with good.
