The Prayer of the One Who Joins Late

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
After this, a message was received by the program from one of the listening brothers residing in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah. He says: Ibrahim 'Umar Nasir, a Sudanese. Our brother asks and says: I ask you, O Shaykh, about a person who caught up with the imam for the last two rak'ahs of the 'Asr prayer, after the completion of the middle tashahhud and the imam’s standing for the last two rak'ahs. How does he complete his prayer? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
When the imam says the taslim, he stands up and performs two rak'ahs. The last two rak'ahs that he makes up are the end of his prayer, and the first part is the two rak'ahs he caught up with the imam, which are the beginning of his prayer. If it is feasible for him to recite more along with al-Fatihah, if the imam prolongs his standing, that is prescribed; because they are the beginning of his prayer. The rule is that what one catches up with the imam is the beginning of his prayer, and what he makes up is the end of his prayer, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
and pray whatever you get (with the people) and complete the rest which you have missedما أدركتم فصلوا وما فاتكم فأتموا
Sahih al-Bukhari 635
. So the completion is the making up. The two rak'ahs that he makes up, if he missed the first two rak'ahs, become the end of his prayer. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
