Do the jinn associate with humans? And do they have any influence over the believer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From Homs Governorate in the Syrian Arab Republic, the listener (H. M. M.) sent a message containing a collection of questions. In his first question, he asks: Is it true that some people associate with the jinn and speak with them, and do the jinn have any influence over the believer?

Answer:
Some people may associate with the jinn; they may mix with them and serve them in their worship of others besides Allah, or by slaughtering animals for them, or by making vows to them, thereby serving them. The point is that one may associate with the jinn. The jinn are a great weight; Allah created them for worship. Allah the Exalted said:
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
[Surat al-Dhariyat: 56]. They are commanded to worship Allah and obey Him, just as humans are commanded to do so. Some people may serve them and worship them alongside Allah so that they will fulfill some of their needs. In doing so, they have associated partners with Allah and worshipped others alongside Him .
They may also appear to some people in their homes, while traveling, or in any place where they manifest themselves to people. However, the general rule is that they see us, but we do not see them, as He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said:
Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see themإِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لا تَرَوْنَهُمْ
[Surat al-A'raf: 27]. Obeying them in sins is forbidden, just as obeying humans in sins is forbidden; it is not permissible to obey them in sins, and worshipping them is associating partners with Allah .
If they ask a human to strike someone, or to take someone’s money, or to give them someone’s money, this is injustice. If one draws near to them through money, slaughter, or supplication, it becomes major shirk (associating partners with Allah). We ask Allah for safety.
The people of the pre-Islamic age of ignorance used to seek the help of the jinn. When they descended into valleys, they feared them and said, “We seek refuge in the noble one of this valley from the foolish ones of his people.” Allah refuted them in His saying, the Exalted:
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.
[Surat al-Jinn: 6]. In Surah
Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed to me that a group of the jinn listened and said, 'Indeed, we have heard an amazing Qur'an.قل أوحي إلي
[Al-Jinn 72:1]
, He, the Exalted, says:
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden.
[Surat al-Jinn: 6]. Therefore, it is not permissible to seek the help of the jinn, nor to supplicate to them, nor to call for their aid, nor to slaughter for them, nor to make vows to them. All of this is associating partners with Allah.
As for the fact that they may hear their voices, or associate with them, or serve them, this happens to some people. It may happen to those who worship graves or worship devils; they may associate with them and serve them, with each group serving the other. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. So, do they have an influence over the believer, as our brother asks?

Answer: Yes, a jinni may attach itself to a human and overpower him, entering into him and enveloping him, causing him to become insane because of it and harming him, being unjust to him. This is common, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The devil flows in a man like his blood.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4719Sahih (Al-Albani)
It may enter into him, meaning it may mix with him until it speaks through his mouth. It may be a man, it may be a woman, it may be a Muslim, or it may be a disbeliever. The Muslim is an unjust transgressor, and the disbeliever is known for his injustice and evil.
He should be treated, reminded of Allah, and warned against injustice. The Muslim may come out easily; he fears Allah when reminded and comes out. Some Muslims among the jinn may have much injustice and evil, and they do not come out except with difficulty. The disbeliever likewise may not come out because of his injustice and disbelief. However, with the recitation of the Qur'an and the prescribed seeking of refuge, he comes out, by the permission of Allah, in most cases. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
