The harm of the jinn to humans, and the means of protection from it
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
It is known that the jinn and humans are among the creations of Allah the Exalted, and He commanded them to worship, as He said: [Surat al-Dhariyat: 56]. My question is: Do the jinn harm humans, and if so, how and by what means? What are the symptoms of a person who is afflicted, and how is the cure if it occurs?
Answer: The jinn are a great weight, and Allah created them to worship Him, [Surat al-Dhariyat: 56]. The correct view is that they are the offspring of Iblis, and they are called the jinn. He is their father, just as Adam is the father of humans. Among them are disbelievers and Muslims, and among them are sinners, just as among the children of Adam there are the good and the bad. Allah has charged them with His worship and obedience, and He has made obligatory upon them certain duties. Therefore, it is obligatory for them to listen and obey, to submit to the command of Allah, and to revere His prohibitions.
They are of various kinds and forms; they eat and drink, marry and reproduce. They are of various kinds and forms, and they may harm the children of Adam just as the children of Adam harm one another. The jinn may harm humans at times by throwing stones, or by setting fire to some of their belongings, or by annoying speech, or by other means. They may also harm by a jinn possessing a human. Generally, this happens due to causes from the humans, such as throwing a heavy object without mentioning the name of Allah, or pouring hot water without mentioning the name of Allah, or the like of that, which may harm them. So they take advantage of the harm that came from the human and possess him. However, when verses from Allah the Almighty, from the noble verses of Allah the Glorious and Exalted, are recited over him, and he is asked to come out and warned of Allah the Exalted and Sublime, and it is recited over him by one who has strength in the religion of Allah and strong faith, then he will come out if he has religion, if he has good in him; he will come out, take a lesson, and remember. He may not come out if he is an open sinner or a disbeliever, like the open sinners among humans; they may oppress and transgress and not care about advice because of their disbelief or open sinfulness. So they are like humans: among them are the open sinner, the disbeliever, the oppressor, the good, and the bad. Allah has prescribed for us to protect ourselves from their evil by seeking refuge. It is prescribed for the human, morning and evening, to say:Sunan Abi Dawud 3898Sahih (Al-Albani) three times, and Sunan Ibn Majah 3869 three times morning and evening. All of this is among the means of safety from the jinn and others.
Likewise, reciting Ayat al-Kursi after every prayer, and reciting it when going to sleep, is among the means of Allah’s protection for him from the devils. And so is reciting "Say, He is Allah, the One" and the two chapters of seeking refuge after every prayer, and reciting them three times after Maghrib and Fajr. All of this is among the means of safety from the devils of humans and jinn.
And the believer should be far from the causes of harm to both humans and jinn. And whoever holds fast to Allah and takes the prescribed means, Allah will protect him from the evil of both humans and jinn. And whoever is negligent may have humans and jinn empowered against him because of his negligence, or his aggression, or his oppression. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
