What is the relationship between the jinn and humans, and vice versa? And is it permissible for jinn and humans to intermarry?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : There is a question regarding the jinn: What is the relationship between the jinn and humans? And what is the impact of the jinn on humans? And similar to the questions raised: Is it permissible for a human to marry a jinni, or the reverse?

The Shaykh : The Wise Lawgiver has severed the relationship between humans and jinn; because the jinn were among the causes of the misguidance of humans, as came in some texts that the Arabs in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, when they descended into a valley and wanted to spend the night in it, would seek refuge with the chief of the jinn in that valley; He said - the Exalted - :
And there were men from mankind who sought refuge in men from the jinn, so they [only] increased them in burden. وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الْإِنْسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا
[Al-Jinn 72:6]
meaning: weariness and misguidance; and therefore the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) blocked the path of humans seeking aid from the jinn absolutely, so he said:
or who goes to a fortuneteller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad. مَن أتى كاهنًا فصَدَّقَه بما يقول ؛ فقد كفر بما أُنزِلَ على محمد
Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam)
. So it is not permissible for a Muslim who believes in Allah and His Messenger to seek aid from a being that is beyond the material world, as it is said, were it not for the coming of the decisive texts from the Book and the Sunnah and the consensus of the community that there is a creation called the jinn, and they have attributes that correspond to their creation from fire, as came in the Qur'an; were it not for these decisive texts, we would have said: the jinn are a myth like the ghoul, but these decisive texts came, so we believed in Allah and in what came from Allah regarding this creation of the jinn, just as we believed in the angels, and we do not see either these or those, as Allah (Mighty and Majestic) stated in the Noble Qur'an regarding Iblis and his offspring, who are the jinn:
Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ
[Al-A'raf 7:27]
.
And therefore, if the jinn are of this magnitude of power and ability to see us, and perhaps to dominate us as happens sometimes, they are stronger than us; and therefore it came in the story of Sulayman (peace be upon him) and the throne of Bilqis:
A powerful one from among the jinn said, "I will bring it to you before you rise from your place قَالَ عِفْرِيتٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ أَنَا آتِيكَ بِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقُومَ مِنْ مَقَامِكَ
[An-Naml 27:39]
This; so the power and strength of the jinn is much greater than the strength of humans; and therefore it is not permissible for this weak human in creation to seek aid from one who is stronger, but rather he should suffice with what Allah (Mighty and Majestic) informed about this type of His creation, then stand at the limits that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) legislated for him; so he does not seek aid from them except within the limits of what came in the Sunnah of seeking refuge with the noble verses, and with some of the seekings of refuge that were established in the authentic Sunnah in expelling one who may have been possessed by some of the jinn from some humans, as happened in the time of the Messenger (peace be upon him) in some incidents, and as also happened after that, and especially what was mass-transmitted from Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him).
And I believe that one of the causes of the spread of talk about incidents of the jinn dominating humans in this time is the weakness of Muslims in belief in the unseen first, and reliance on illusory causes second, and not restricting oneself to what came in the Sunnah in treating possession that is not caused by a material disease, but rather is a cause arising from this unseen world, which is the jinn; and therefore the treatment does not exceed reciting the verses and the amulets that came in the Sunnah.
So the answer: A jinni may dominate a human and possess him, but it is not permissible for the human to seek aid from the jinni, as is reported today from some of those who engage in summoning the jinn, or extracting the jinn from the bodies of some humans, this.

The questioner : ... ... .

The Shaykh : This is a weak hadith, yes; and therefore they argue with it, but it is not authentic.
Yes.
