The ruling on lying between spouses and taking from the husband's wealth without his knowledge

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He says: Is it permissible for a husband to lie to his wife about matters he is unable to carry out? For example, she asks him to buy a specific item, but he cannot afford to buy it. How do you guide people in this? And is it permissible for a wife to take from her husband's wealth without his knowledge? Please guide us. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
A husband may lie to his wife, and she may lie to him, in matters between them or in their interests, provided the lie does not harm anyone other than the two of them and is confined to them. He may lie to her and say, "I will buy such-and-such," or "I will bring you such-and-such," in order to quiet her and please her. She may say the same: "I will do this with you," "I will not oppose you," or "I will not go to such-and-such house," in order to calm his anger, even if she is lying. This is because it was established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the hadith of Umm Kulthum, the daughter of 'Uqbah ibn Abi Mu'ayt (may Allah be pleased with her). She said (may Allah be pleased with her): "I did not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) permit anything regarding lying except in three cases: war, reconciliation between people, and a man speaking to his wife, and a woman speaking to her husband." This is because there are interests involved, such that the situation between them settles down, and the anger of him or her subsides through promises that contain lies, which do not harm any of the people. This is a proven and beneficial practice, and there is no blame in it, and praise be to Allah.
She may take from his wealth without his knowledge what she needs, without extravagance or waste, if it is a need. She may take her needs from his wealth, whether food, money, or clothing, without his knowledge, but without extravagance or waste. This is because it was established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Hind bint 'Utbah said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan—meaning her husband—is a stingy man who does not give me from the maintenance what suffices me and my children. Do I have the right to take from his wealth what suffices me and my children without his permission?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Take from his property what is customary which may suffice you and your children.نعم. خذي من ماله بالمعروف ما يكفيك ويكفي بنيك
Sahih Muslim 1714a
in the customary manner, meaning without extravagance or waste, according to the usual custom, according to the need. Yes.
